Google Business Profile checklist for car washes
Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a driver sees when searching for a car wash. Use this checklist to set it up right and keep it current.
1. Basics (set once, check quarterly)
- Business name matches your real-world signage, without extra keywords stuffed in. Google's guidelines prohibit that.
- Primary category is accurate, such as βCar wash.β Add secondary categories only for services you actually offer (for example, detailing).
- Address and map pin put drivers at the actual entrance, not the back lot.
- Phone number reaches someone or a voicemail that's checked.
- Website links to your homepage or a page for that specific location.
- Business description says plainly what you offer: tunnel, self-serve, touchless, detailing, memberships, vacuums.
2. Hours (check weekly)
- Regular hours match the posted hours on site.
- Special hours are set ahead of holidays.
- Weather closures and equipment downtime get updated the same day, so nobody drives to a closed wash.
- If self-serve bays or vacuums keep different hours, mention that in the description or a post.
3. Services, products, and attributes
- List each wash package with a short, accurate description. Include prices if you're comfortable showing them.
- Add memberships or unlimited plans as a service so people searching for them find you.
- Fill in the attributes that apply, such as payment types and accessibility.
4. Photos (add new ones regularly)
- Logo and a clear cover photo.
- Entrance from the street, so first-timers recognize it.
- Tunnel or bays, vacuum area, pay stations, menu board.
- Real, recent photos: clean cars, the crew, seasonal shots. Skip stock images.
5. Posts (aim for weekly)
- Specials and membership promotions.
- Seasonal reminders, like getting road salt off the undercarriage in winter or pollen in spring.
- New equipment, services, or hours changes.
6. Reviews (check daily)
- Reply to every review, positive and negative. See our guide to replying to negative reviews.
- Ask happy customers for reviews, for example with a QR code at the exit or a link in membership emails. Don't offer incentives for reviews; Google's policies prohibit it.
- Report reviews that are spam or violate Google's policies.
7. Q&A, messages, and access
- Watch for public questions on your profile and answer them.
- Make sure the owner account belongs to the business, not a former employee or agency. Add others as managers so you can remove them later.
